Even though it’s expensive, hard to get to, and full of extras, Walt Disney World Resort is, above all, magical. With four theme parks (the Magic Kingdom, Epcot, Disney’s Hollywood Studios, and Disney’s Animal Kingdom), two water parks (Disney’s Typhoon Lagoon and Disney’s Blizzard Beach), more than two dozen hotels, and the Disney Springs shopping, dining, and entertainment complex, this expansive property is home to well-known landmarks and attractions like Cinderella Castle, “it’s a small world,” Spaceship Earth, Toy Story Land, and Pandora: The World of Avatar. Some say that Disneyland in Anaheim isn’t even close to competing.

Of course, there is a significant disadvantage. Even if you only want to spend a single day at Walt Disney World, park admission is pricey (single-day passes for children and adults 10 and up start at $109). For adults 10 and older, one-day water park admission tickets start at $64. Most people recommend visiting this large property over the course of a few days to make up for the high entrance fees. If you just have a short amount of time, think about visiting Disney Springs instead of the parks, which are both free to enter.

For some, the large number of people is yet another letdown. All of the parks are crowded with visitors and residents during school breaks, which causes ride lines to sometimes be hours long and congests the pathways. Try going on a weekday while classes are in session to stay away from these problems. Alternately, remain at a Walt Disney World Resort hotel, where everyone has access to Extended Magic Hours (or extra attraction hours for one or two parks). Use the FastPass+ system at Disney World to get the most out of your time there. Additionally, several Disney properties offer dining plans as part of their vacation packages.

The Walt Disney World Resort is situated about 17 miles southwest of the center of Orlando in the Florida cities of Bay Lake and Lake Buena Vista. All theme parks open at 9 a.m. and close between 7 and 11 p.m., though their hours vary. The water park is open daily from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. You can take advantage of the free bus, ferry, or monorail transfers if you’re staying at one of Disney’s hotels. There are also parking areas and stops for LYNX routes 50 and 56, but there are additional fees. Shops, restaurants, toilets, sitting areas, and live entertainment like parades and fireworks displays are available at Disney Springs and all of the parks.
